Swift Surveys

Have a curious conundrum concerning caudals? Or maybe a stimulating scenario scrutinising sevoflurane? What about a perplexing puzzle purporting to PEEP?

Why not submit a Swift Survey and see if your fellow paediatric anaesthetic colleagues can answer you question…

Swift Surveys are designed to be short, easy to answer questionnaires on hot topics or areas of interest in paediatric anaesthesia. The concise surveys are distributed to the delegates of the APA Annual Scientific Meeting and can survey the opinion of over 400 international paediatric anaesthetists.

Swift Survey campaigns are launched annually, approximately 6 months prior to the APAGBI Annual Scientific Meeting. Calls for Swift Survey proposals are advertised via our mailing list, regional link residents and social media. Authors of successful proposals work in collaboration with the PATRN committee to prepare a final version of their survey for distribution to ASM delegates, and continue to work with PATRN thereafter to analyse and report the results.

Data generated from Swift Surveys have previously been accepted for presentation at national and international meetings in addition to publication in peer-reviewed journals. Previous examples of Swift Surveys can be found here:

  • Drug Errors in Paediatric Anaesthesia are Common-But Often Unreported unless Actual Harm Occurs; published in British Journal of Anaesthesia, 2018
  • Short and Sweet. Perioperative management of the diabetic paediatric patient, published in Paediatric Anaesthesia, 2019
  • Airway Management for Dental Clearance in a Preschool Child: a UK survey; published in Paediatric Anaesthesia, 2020
  • How Green is Paediatric Anaesthesia; published in Paediatric Anaesthesia, 2022
  • Risk Discussions in Paediatric Anaesthesia; a survey of current UK practice; correspondence article published in BJA, 2024

Feel inspired?

If this has encouraged you to think of your own Swift Survey then please contact the committee and we will see if we can help it take flight!
